Yes the prayers have been answered and it is snowing almost every night in Big Bear! It may not come from Mother Nature, but it has come with help from a higher source. No the snow is not from Mother Nature, who has been very uncooperative this year. It came from guys like this, who helped with their snow dances and ski burning. Well sort of.





In actuality, over the past few seasons, Big Bear has invested more than $12 million into its snowmaking systems to combat dry winters, and enhance conditions. This benefits you by providing you with a long season, that totally does not rely on Mother Nature, and gives a smooth consistent experience on both Snow Summit and Bear Mountain. The constant investment into the snow guns means 50% more snow coverage and as long as the temperatures stay in the 20's, Big Bear is making it snow every night. The snow guns at each ski area can use between 5000 -6000 gallons of water a minute. In comparison, an average swimming pool is 25. 000 gallons, so it would fill up in about 5 minutes. Each resort’s snowmaking system can convert about 5,000 to 6,000 gallons of water per minute into snow! That’s a good sized stream flow and would fill up a back yard pool in just 5 minutes. The snow guns are on every one of the runs that have been developed by the resort, so this means more ski-able and ride-able terrain then any other Southern California resort. Big Bear also has a darn big lake to pull the water from meaning that the supply is there.

There really is no difference between "man made" and natural snow once a boarder, skier or groomer has ridden over it. The snow packs down and with the usage, blends right into the snow pack.
